How to get rid of Dark Knuckles

Good morning, I have dark knuckles that as refused to fade after scrubbing it daily. I noticed it when I started using my lotion newly, but I've stopped using it; but still no improvement.

What else can I use to clear my knuckles? Thank you.

Acanthosis nigricans also known as dark knuckles is a form of hyperpigmentation. While use of lightening products causes dark knuckles, other conditions like

  • vitamin B12 deficiency
  • Diabetes/insulin resistant
  • Family history; when it runs in the family
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
  • Oral contraceptives

All these among other conditions can cause one to have dark knuckles.

If you are sure that you have stopped using the skincare product responsible for it, skin repair will be needed at this point. One way to achieve that is to stop scrubbing the area because it will only aggravate the situation. Also, use hydrating and moisturising products such as stabilize aloe vera gel, and carrier oils suitable for your skin type. These will hydrate, moisturize, and heal the skin.

Natural remedies for dark knuckles are;

  • Infuse dehydrated tomatoes in sweet almond oil for 4 weeks, strain the oil out and keep applying after washing your knuckles morning and night, every day.
  • You can also use sweet almond oil alone without infusion.
  • Hydration is important here, that means if you can get the stabilize aloe vera gel, apply on the knuckles too before moisturing.
  • Apply rose water and glycerin toner morning and night too before applying moisturizer. And you can infuse dry herbs like carrot or hibiscus in the toner for a day. Strain and use on the knuckles.

Consistent use of any of these remedies will help even out your knuckles.
