Supplements to Avoid

Herbs are powerful force of nature used for centuries to treat and cure diseases. However, great care needs to be taken when using them as supplements either as a capsule or as tea. 

Some health conditions can become worse after taken some herbs. Conditions like blood sugar, blood pressure, and when taking certain medications.

Never take these supplements if you have the above conditions or speak with your doctor before taken them.

  • Garlic: garlic is a natural form of antibiotics that can be used to treat fungal infection, reduce high blood pressure, and lower cholesterol. However, it also thin your blood, thereby increasing your risk of bleeding. If you are taking a blood thinning medications, stay away from garlic.
  • Licorice root: It contains anti-inflammatory properties. It help treat infections, sore throat, cough, stomach ulcer, and help increase blood pressure. Ensure to speak with your health care provider before taking it because excess intake has side effects for those with kidney disease.
  • Ginseng: This herb is used mostly by Chinese to treat diseases and to improve their immunity. It help slow down aging, manage diabetes, and improve sex. Constant use can low blood sugar which can also become a problem for people with diabetes. It should not be used if you take blood thinners.
  • Aloe Vera: It's hydrating, and helps soothe burns and wound , and inflamed skin. Taking the raw gel by mouth can cause abnormal heart rhythm or kidney problems. It helps lower blood sugar levels.
  • Ginger: It helps with cold, and relieves menstrual cramp. It relieves joint pain,  motion sickness, and nausea caused by surgery. However, it may cause problems with blood clotting, heart rhythms, blood pressure, and blood sugar levels. 

Moderation is key. Supplements should be taken moderately and should be stopped immediately you start having unusual symptoms.
