Seven signs of Mental Exhaustion

 

When we say mental exhaustion, the first thing that comes to mind is feeling tired or exhausted in your head. Mental exhaustion can happen in form of physical weakness instead of your mind. You can also feel drained mentally when stressed out or on the edge. Work, financial difficulty, taking care of sick/old parents or kids can cause mental exhaustion. 

Signs of Mental Exhaustion

1. Short-tempered: When things irritate you often, or get mad at people frequently can be a sign that you are mentally tired. When this occurs.

2. Not productive at Work: mental exhaustion can take a hold on your production level at work. When you feel unmotivated to work, or lose concentration at work are signs that your mind is clogged and needs to be cleared.

3. Not sleeping well: when your brain is filled with things to do and work left undone. Lack of sleep can cause mental tiredness, and make you physically tired during the day. When it becomes a pattern, speak with your doctor.

4. Indulging in unhealthy things: When you start drinking alcohol or drugs when you don't do them before. Mental exhaustion can be harder for those who have substance use disorder. 

5. Depression: Depression is generally linked with mental challenges. Depression makes you unmotivated, affects your daily activities including things that excite you. Speak with your doctor when you feel that way for more than two weeks.

6. Exercise becomes hard: Experts don't know why mental tiredness affects physical activity. But when physical activity such as exercising becomes pretty tough to do,  that can be a sign too.

7. Pains: Mental tiredness can affect your body. When you start feeling more pains like soreness, headache, muscles, joint ache, back and stomache issues. When you already have an illness that suddenly becomes more painful than usual, that can be a sign of mental exhaustion.

When you begin to loose focus or interest at work, take a little break to clear your mind. You can practice a little relaxing exercises like taken a deep breathe, stretches or yoga for few minutes before resuming back to work.
