While premenstrual symptoms cannot be prevented, eating healthy may help with how you feel.

  1. To prevent water retention (weight gain), reduce your salt intake. Less salt decrease fluid buildup.
  2. Avoid excess sugar and alcohol, and cut down on caffeine.
  3. Eat fiber rich foods such as fruits, whole grain and vegetables.
  4. Vitamins and mineral supplement such as vitamin E, B6, D, and magnesium can improve premenstrual symptoms.
  5. Exercise help relieve pains before and during menstruation.
