What causes Premenstrual Syndrome

I will like to know what causes premenstrual syndrome, my cycle has never been dramatic. I often forget about periods until I see blood, but now all of a sudden my emotions are all over the place few days to my period plus painful breast. What could be responsible for the change?

A woman's period is unique to her and every woman is likely to experience changes over time with their menstrual cycle. Premenstrual syndrome  is characterised by emotional and physical symptoms usually a week or more to a woman's period.

It is caused by changes or fluctuations in hormones usually around the female's menstrual cycle. Symptoms differ in individual such as;

  • Bloating
  • Tender breasts
  • Fatigue
  • Acne
  • Headache
  • Backache
  • Mood swings
  • Anxiety
  • Nausea
  • Irritability

Some may experience more than one or two of the symptoms before having their periods. So I guess what you are experiencing is completely normal but you can improve your feelings by having adequate rest, eat healthy, and do basic exercises or yoga to make you feel better.

According to studies, supplementation is believed to help greatly with premenstrual syndrome.
