9 Essential Camping Tips
Camping is one of the most enjoyable ways to explore the outdoors. Not only does it provide a better sense of appreciating nature but also enriches your sense of adventure and achievement while staying outdoors. At the moment, camping is one of the best ways to socialize outdoors with friends and family, and with the pandemic coming to an end; you should still take the needed precautions like maintaining a good distance when you are out there.
So here are 9 important things to keep in mind while preparing for a camping trip.
Planning
Like anything else, proper planning is essential before a camping trip particularly if you are a beginner and, or not familiar with the place where the proposed camping is located. When you create a plan before going camping, it serves as a guide for you and others.
Safety and Health
One of the important things to ensure is to consider the health and safety of the participants. It is essential for the organizer of the camping trip to be aware of pre-existing health conditions of the campers, and make sure that adequate consideration is given to their ability to spend time camping. All necessary medications, health, and first aid equipment should be packed along with you while camping.
Weather forecast
This is very crucial in case the campers are fairly new to camping trips and have limited equipment to tackle tricky weather conditions. Make sure that a reliable weather forecasting service is used and if rough weather is predicted, consider rescheduling the trip or get adequate equipment that can be used to overcome severe weather conditions
Inform local emergency services or local enforcement authorities
Before reaching the campsite always make sure you are aware of the local emergency services like hospitals, dispensaries, fire, and safety emergency contact. More often than not, the campsite will have provided all these facilities while staying on the campsite; nevertheless, it is prudent to find out the relevant information beforehand.
Equipment
Good quality camping equipment can help your camping experience more memorable for the right reasons therefore it is strongly advised to get yourself a good quality camping tent especially if you are planning camping and exploring outdoors as a long-term hobby.
Apart from the tent, other types of equipment such as sleeping bags, inflatable beds, high beam torches, and backpacks will help in carrying equipment from your conveyance to the campsite.
Route map in case internet is not available
It’s always recommended to have a good overview of the campsite and surrounding areas especially in remote areas where there can be issues with internet connectivity, especially in cloudy or rainy weather. Therefore, it would be advisable to carry a map which provides an overview of the camping site and the surrounding areas. Most camping sites provide such a map with facilities nearby, so it will be prudent to check this with the camping site
Food and beverages
These will depend on the location of the camp and weather; the camping sites have facilities that serve meals. If you can carry pre-planned meals which require a minimal amount of preparation time, it will help a long way in keeping costs down as well as making sure that you are not too overly reliant on the facilities provided at the camping site.
Travel to the camping site
Always make sure there is adequate access to the camping site through rail, road, or water to transport the campers safely to the camping site. If you are traveling by road, ensure that you confirm that the vehicle is well maintained and roadworthy before travel
Create a list of activities
To make any camping experience memorable, make sure you have enough activities in mind while camping. This can include facilities provided by the camping site such as child-friendly activities if children are allowed to the camping site, and many arcade games; amusement facilities, adventure treks, and many more. Spending some time researching the campsite and making a list of the activities to indulge in can make that one camping experience much more memorable.
Finally, keep a blog about your experience while camping. Experiences are worth the money and time spent, but to make each experience count, don’t forget to share your memories and experiences with others. You can keep the experiences either by taking photos, videos, or writing a journal about your experience and time spent with others. These will keep the memories of good times while camping for years to come.
