4 Natural Remedies for Hyperpigmentation
Hyperpigmentations are skin conditions that make affected areas of the skin darker or pigmented than the normal skin tone. Hyperpigmentations are responsible for skin conditions such as erythema, melasma, acanthosis nigrans, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. The spots developed are known as age spots or sunburn.
Melanin pigment, responsible for the skin, hair, and eyes color, protects you from harmful sun rays. That causes premature aging, wrinkles, and dark spots can be altered due to excessive exposure to the sun, leading to hyperpigmentation. Dark skins produce more melanin for protection compared to light skin, which is why it’s difficult to see the effects of hyperpigmentation on dark skin. Still, not protected from harmful UV rays.
Skin conditions such as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, sunburn, and melasma can be corrected using natural remedies. These herbs effectively treat hyperpigmentation, brighten the skin, and repair the skin barrier affected by harmful sun rays.
- Camwood: Camwood is an ancient and beautiful colored herb that originated from West Africa used for body beautification. It is incredible for skin issues, such as acne, hyperpigmentation, wrinkles. It improves even skin tone, contains anti-aging properties, and controls oil on the skin. Consistent use helps lighten the age spots and glows the skin. Camwood serves as an exfoliant, as an herbal bath, as oil when infused and apply on affected areas or use generously on your skin.
- Tumeric: While this root serves as a spice to flavor foods and drinks, this root has rescued many people’s skin from conditions such as; post-acne scars, uneven skin tone, and dull skin. It contains an active antioxidant known as curcumin that helps fight inflammation and boost the immune system. Some have complained of allergic reactions to turmeric, such as rashes and tingling. Ensure to conduct a patch test before using. Turmeric uses; to make a mask, add turmeric powder and honey or water and apply on affected areas. Infuse the dried root in a carrier oil of choice, and use a moisturizer. Boil some and add to bathing water, add the powder to black soap base and use as your daily body wash.
- Banana: This delicious fruit of Asian origin is rich in antioxidants containing moisturizing properties. These anti-aging properties reduce the appearance of dark spots, wrinkles, and skin pigmentation. To use banana for pigmentations, get a ripe banana, add honey or plain yogurt, and mash till smooth. Apply it on the affected area as a mask, and leave it on for 15-30 minutes before rinsing off and moisturize. The banana peel works by reducing sebum production and enlarged pores on the face. Rub the peel on your face, and leave it in for few minutes before rinsing off. Once or twice a week is perfect.
- Rice : Rice is rich in vitamins healthy for the skin, balances skin pH, and speeds up cell growth. It contains vitamin B3 (niacinamide), an active use for treating hyperpigmentation. It fades scars, uneven skin tone, acne, and brightens dark spots. As a toner, soak rice in organic rose water for a day, sieve, and use. Rice is grounded into powder, mixed with water, and used as a mask or added to a black soap base as a daily wash.
Remember to do a patch test before using any herbs on your skin to check for sensitivity. If used as a toner, apply morning and night after having your bath, use at most three times a week as a mask or exfoliant.
