Hairy Females (Hirsutism)

Hairy Females (Hirsutism)

A lady was body-shamed days ago in a popular Facebook group for having hair on her chest.

Having hair in unusual places doesn't look feminine to people. Some can be the chin, lower lip, legs (fast-growing hair), and face.

It can be genetics (females in one family also have hair) or can be a hormone disorder. The reason for this is because oversecretion of androgens.

Androgen hormones are a group of hormones that play a role in male traits and reproductive activity. Present in both males and females. In women, androgens are produced in the ovaries, adrenal glands, and fat cells.

Women may produce too much or too little of these hormones; disorders of androgen excess and deficiency are among the more common hormonal disorders in women

Overproduction of androgens causes;

  • Unusual baldness
  • Excess hair
  • Deep voice
  • Enlarged clitoris
  • Irregular or missed periods
  • Persistent Acne, etc.

When next you see females with any of these characters, please stop shaming them.

Some do say why can't you shave them off? If only shaving can take it all way.
They shave, but doing that sometimes encourages the hair to grow more. Plus other effects that come with constant shaving like bumps can make it frustrating.

Now you know it's not them, it's the hormone.
