We all are wired differently; while some people can perform optimally when stressed, but having the urge for sex is usually not one of those things. Work related stress, relationships challenges and issues at home can happen to anyone, but knowing how manage these situations in a healthy way is the most crucial thing. Here are the things that kill sex drive;

  1. Partner Issues: Partner issues are one of the top killers and reasons for a low sex drive. When partners begin to fight or argue more, poor communication, feeling betrayed or does not longer trust the significant other, these can kill your sex thrive. When these happen, the best way to handle the situation is to have an honest conversation with your partner, and if nothing get in touch with a couples therapist or counselor.
  2. Alcohol: This shouldn’t come as a surprise as more articles have talked about the effects of alcohol on sexual health like erectile dysfunction. While taking a drink can set the mood for sex, but excess alcohol can alter your sex drive. Getting drunk can also be a huge turn off for some people, so why a drink is a trigger to have sex for you, try not to get drunk so as not to piss off your partner. If you are drinking more than normal experiencing alcohol dependency, do seek for the right help.
  3. Poor Sleep: Poor or too little sleep can affect your sex drive. If your sex life has being up and down, not getting enough sleep might just be a factor. Have you been going to bed late or wake up too early? Do you have sleep apnea? Anything that causes you not to sleep well at night can kill your sex drive. To improve this, work on your sleep habits pr pattern, if it nothing changes, see a doctor.
  4. Expanding the family: Although you don’t have to lose your sex drive as parents if properly managed, but well, having kids can sometimes meddle with couple’s sex life especially the mother. To get closer with your partner, you can hire a babysitter while you create time to be partners and parents. One of the best times to have sex is during baby’s nap time.
  5. Medications: This often goes unnoticed, but yes certain medications can affect your sex drive. Examples of such drugs are; some birth control pills, blood pressure drugs, chemotherapy, and antidepressants. Changing drugs or dosages may help but ensure that you speak with your doctor about it.
  6. Poor Body Image: Although this factor is not gender specific, however, women seem to have great concern about how they look. A feeling of being sexy is easier if you like how you look. Working on self and accepting your body the way it is even if you are working towards a desired body is the best way to handle it. Feel positive about yourself and if your partner has a low esteem, assuring them that they are sexy help improve and set the mood right.
  7. Reduced Testosterone: Testosterone hormone increases sex drive. As a man increases in age, this hormone levels may drop a little, but not all men lose their urge for sex when it happens, bur some do.  Other factors like relationships and weight can affect a man’s desire for sex and T-levels.
